Brookelynn Starnes, a deeply talented Pratt grad, started her line in 2006 and opened her first store in 2009. Her pieces, which veer from classic to edgy, have been featured in Elle, Lucky, and Marie Claire. On the edgy side: a silk jumper that zips up the front, has oversize pockets and comes with an optional belt to add extra shape. Classics include a blindingly bright yellow shift dress with cap sleeves and a flirty ruffle of fabric down the front. Starnes uses only quality fabrics-silk, wool, and cotton-so dresses begin at $150 and tops at $80.
It's personal: C&D is sold worldwide in high-end stores like Barney's Co-op and Fred Segal, but Starnes is often in her East Village shop, eager to help customers locate the best looks for their bodies and styles.
