New London Pharmacy

Window of the Week! This Chelsea apothecary carries homeopathic remedies, but this window shows they’ve got some homo-pathic goods too: Tom of Finland’s perfume for men. In case you’re wondering, the man-scent smells of “crumpled leaf, suede, metal, pepperwood, tonka bean and musks.”

Why
My doctor sent me here once when I had a nasty infection and needed a prescription rightaway. Why? “Because it’s mom and pop and they’ll take good care of you,” was his answer. They did, and fast. While I was waiting I noticed a good selection of homeopathic and alternative lines not often found in pharmacies. I’ve since been back many times and have discovered that this 50-year old institution is the pharmacy of choice for locals (though my friends with kids assure me it doesn’t have as big a stock as Bigelow in the West Village). As it turns out, owner Abby Fazio is a self-appointed cosmetics queen and likes to sample each product herself before putting it on her shelves. So everything comes pre-tested, pre-approved. There’s also a new housewares addition, New London Luxe, on the second floor, which has European and Asian housewares.
