Billy’s offers the ultimate happy meal—and I am not talking about the transfat and plastic pseudohappiness offered by those ubiquitous fast-food emporia. No, I’m talking about true happiness—and it looks like three cupcakes on a plate. One is chocolate with chocolate frosting and a few sprinkles, and one is yellow with pale green frosting, and one is yellow with chocolate frosting.

Where am I? Heaven, obviously, a.k.a. Billy’s Bakery, which offers fresh, yummy cupcakes in a setting that channels 1930s-cakeshop-in-smalltown-Missouri. Billy’s makes fabulous cakes to order in all sorts of tried-and-true combinations: yellow cake with butter cream frosting; chocolate, of course; German chocolate; carrot; and so on.Now, I know what you are thinking. Birthdays, right? And, yes, Billy’s does a mean birthday cake. But really, shouldn’t you consider a gorgeous layer cake for your next dinner party? Think about it: the drama of standing at the table alongside a fluffy white coconut cake, sharp knife in hand, anointing the lucky guest with that first piece. Do it! Buy the cake! Go to heaven!
