Gift Guide: Saipua Soaps and Flowers reopening in Red Hook

One of our favorite Red Hook shops, Saipua, is resurfacing after Superstorm Sandy this weekend, Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. They'll be selling their favorite holiday soaps, like the Balsam Fir ($10, pictured), and one-of-a-kind holiday wreaths made from materials from their farm and antique ribbon (starting at $250).

Saipua makes beautiful, natural, herbacious handmade soaps and is also an exquisite florist, all in one Red Hook, Brooklyn enterprise. The beautifully packaged soaps come in scents including Clary Sage, Basil, Cedarwood and Saltwater and make great gifts. Saipua, which means soap in Finnish, also work as floral consultants and providers (yep, they deliver) and are known for doing onsite floral decorations for weddings. Their talents don't come cheaply ($5,000 is the minimum rate per event during peak season) but owner and head designer, Sarah, has a great eye for the kind of details that make special events special -- Joe Dolce
